What does the IWDR do?

Utilise the power of combined data to impact performance & genetic improvement in your working dog lines. Join over 117 working dog organizations with data on over 85,000 dogs. Get direct genetic improvement, maintain genetic diversity, manage health care and program operations – just by using a working-dog specific database that does the hard calculations for you

Who can use the IWDR?

Working dog organizations, breeding cooperatives, private breeders and breed clubs can all benefit from the IWDR’s dog management and selection tools.

What specific dog data does the IWDR track, and how can it help my breeding program?

You enter data about your dogs – this includes their status, relatives, performance outcomes, health tests and medical history, relationships (such as carers or clients), documents and photos.

The database regularly calculates inbreeding coefficients. Test matings can then be planned with immediate calculation of inbreeding % on the proposed litter.

You can also measure Estimated Breeding Values on all dogs in your program – EBVs help you make meaningful and informed decisions to improve aspects of health or temperament within your breeding program.

What are some examples of how I could use it?

Tools to assist in your decision making.

Support intervention for individual dogs, litters and breeding programs. Once you’ve entered data on your dogs, the IWDR shows you where to focus your improvement strategies in order to meet your goals.

Improve Each Generation.

Compare each generation to ensure improvement over time. Use test matings to plan ahead and trial matings without risk. Keep puppies that improve upon their parents’ scores.

Select the best breeding dogs.

Simply arrange your breeding dogs by their index value from best to worst. Choose pairs that complement each other based off the data you’ve entered.

Breed only the best candidates.

Use Estimated Breeding Values to identify pairings most likely to produce the best puppies – that is, puppies with the traits you need.

Colony data summaries.

Dog data is summarised so you can easily view and screen various aspects of your colony.

Perform test matings.

Make sure to maintain genetic diversity and improve the genetic quality of your lines. Easily compare test matings and confirm important genetic decisions.

Small breeding programs benefit too.

Store your data in one location and encourage collaboration amongst your industry or breed. Share important data and keep track of generations of dogs. This is ideal for breed clubs who want to maintain genetic diversity and health within a limited gene pool.

Request or share data for studs.

Users can collaborate to find breeding dogs that complement their programs. Request stud data and perform a test mating before progressing.

Proven results.

Maintaining a successful breeding program isn’t easy, but IWDR users have already enjoyed excellent improvement using the tools we provide.
